What Has Debra Leigh Been Up To?

....an “artivist and edu-preneur”, a professional writer, playwright, singer, film-maker, educator, dramaturg, editor, publisher, arts administrator, public speaker and activist, often all at the same time.

In addition to her own creative work, Debra Leigh is passionate about working with other artists.  She founded Hidden River Arts way back in 1995, and has grown the organization so that it now includes gallery events, an independent small press, yearly writing competitions, outreach and educational activities.  Wanting to be a "creative catalyst" for other artists, Debra is dedicated to helping other creative people to grow and develop. In addition to Hidden River's activities, Debra also works individually with fellow writers, with manuscript consultation, all levels of editing, and developmental support at all stages, from concept through to publication and on to promotion.  It's all about creative growth and discovery.

One of her recent projects is a documentary film and companion book, both called 'Junct: The Trashing of Higher Ed. in America, which addresses the corporate colonization of academic culture in the U.S. - and now increasingly happening around the world.  She continues with her fiction and dramatic writing; there are always many projects in development at the same time.

As if that isn't enough, Debra Leigh also provides an expansive list of communication, writing and editing services for a select group of clients in various business sectors, with her company, DLS Communications

For her publishing clients, Debra Leigh offers a variety of services, focused on the support of small press, indy publishing and the independent writer.  Services include content and copy-editing, proofreading and promotion. She loves to work "deep" with writers, doing developmental editing, helping with early-stage projects.  For the independent author, additional services include ghostwriting, manuscript review and editing, proposal and query writing, as well as providing guidances and assistance finding and working with book packaging, cover design and a variety of other publishing professionals.

As an award-winning published writer and playwright herself, Debra Leigh is dedicated to writing as an art form. This is apparent in everything DLS Communications offers.  This is not the kind of company which will hide behind an anonymous website, charge you a fee and outsource the work to underpaid writers.  You will get personal, hands-on attention from Debra Leigh herself.

Debra Leigh’s coaching services draw from both her educational and her theatre experience, to offer powerful and effective speech, elocution, presentation and delivery guidance to anyone preparing for public speaking, panel discussions, lectures, conference presentations or book tours.  She has coached litigators in effective opening and closing arguments, and has worked with trial advocacy training programs.  She has also provided support for writers about to embark on reading tours.  Our programs have recently expanded to include workshops and webinars in both the medical humanities and the corporate humanities - in response to the growing recognition by experts in these areas of occupation that more exposure to the Liberal Arts and the Humanities is needed, and will deeply enrich professionals operating in occupations across the spectrum.  These courses can also be individualized and offered in private session.

For her international clients, Debra Leigh offers ESL editing and coaching, having worked with individuals from Europe, the Middle East and Asia.   She is always happy to work privately or to offer group instruction and workshops in both writing skills and oral presentation.  Consultations are offered online, by telephone or in person, to suit the needs of each individual client.
